Types of Huffs

  • Longer, more gentle huffs with a small breath in help to move mucus from lower airways.
  • Short, fast huffs with a deep breath shift the mucus in the upper airways.
  • Listen for mucus when huffing– if it is early in the breath out it is in the upper airways, ready to be coughed up, if it is late you need to keep huffing to move it closer to mouth.
