Risks of Unclear Boundaries
Your role as a CSW is to support clients as directed by the CFWA Services team. The role of a friend is different from that of a CSW and can constitute a conflict of interest while doing your job.
Unprofessional relationships with clients, and their family members, can lead to risks in blurring the boundaries of your professional relationship.
Risks can include:
- Unreasonable expectations from the client or family members.
- Lack of ability to give objective and professional support.
- Difficulty maintaining boundaries when it comes to personal life.
- Grief and loss for clients when a CSW leaves.
