Your role as a CSW is to support clients as directed by the CFWA Services team. The role of a friend is different from that of a CSW and can constitute a conflict of interest while doing your job.

Unprofessional relationships with clients, and their family members, can lead to risks in blurring the boundaries of your professional relationship.

Risks can include:

• Unreasonable expectations from the client or family members.
• Lack of ability to give objective and professional support.
• Difficulty maintaining boundaries when it comes to personal life.
• Grief and loss for clients when a CSW leaves.
